Fresh jos crisis-15 die. MONDAY, AUGUST 2011

Fresh crisis in parts of Plateau
State has forced the newly
constituted state executive to
called off a one week retreat
earlier billed to hold at Obudu,
Cross River State, as no fewer
than 15 persons have lost their
lives in Heipang and other parts
of Jos.
Consequently, travellers are now
stranded at the Maraba Jama’a
and members of the Special Task
Force (STF) are being accused by
the youths in Korot village, Foron
district of Barkin Ladi local
government area, of providing
cover to their assailants.
Chairman of Barkin Ladi, who
confirmed the attack, could not
say who they attackers were,
even as he said the people are
pointing accusing fingers at the
STF.
While this development was
unfolding, Jos and environs was
tensed up, with people
abandoning their duty posts and
business premises for home due
to the heavy presence of the STF
who took over strategic points
to guard against further
breakdown of law and order.
An unsigned secret document,
release by the STF spokesman,
Capt Charles Ekeocha, said the
youths in Heipang who
demonstrated over the killings,
demanded for the immediate
withdrawal of troops, as they
stoned STF vehicles and soldiers
accommodations in the area.
